The difference between high-voltage AC power supply and high-voltage DC power supply

High voltage AC power refers to transmission lines with AC voltage exceeding 1000 volts or DC voltage exceeding 1500 volts. DC high voltage power supply, also known as high-voltage DC power supply, is a market communication power supply or three-phase power supply. The DC output voltage exceeds kilovolts or tens of thousands of volts, and the output power is generally several hundred to several kilowatts in a stable voltage or current state. There are some differences between high-voltage AC power supply and high-voltage DC power supply:

1. Different stability

In an AC transmission system, all synchronous generators connected to the grid must operate synchronously and have low relative stability.

A DC wire connects two AC systems. Due to the lack of reactance in DC power lines, they have better stability.

2. Different transportation methods

Overhead AC transmission lines typically use three wires, while DC only requires one (single pole) or two (double pole) wires. High voltage alternating current has low transmission loss and is suitable for large-scale power transmission. High voltage DC power supply performs better in applications that require stable voltage, making it suitable for power supply in some special occasions.

3. Different applications

High voltage AC power is mainly used for transmission and distribution in the national and local power grids, because the higher the voltage, the smaller the relative transmission current, thereby reducing the voltage drop on the transmission line and ultimately reducing transmission losses. It is mostly used for household and industrial equipment. High voltage direct current power supply has more advantages in long-distance power transmission, as it has less loss and stable current, especially when transmitting power over long distances or between different power grids. Generally used in various electronic products and other applications such as battery power supply.

In short, both high-voltage AC power supply and high-voltage DC power supply have their own advantages and characteristics, and are applied in different scenarios. Choose a more suitable high-voltage power supply according to your needs.
